Allison Janae Hamilton: Celestine
30 January - 8 March 2025
Marianne Boesky Gallery
509 West 24th Street
Allison Janae Hamilton (b. 1984 in Lexington, KY; raised in Florida) will present Celestine, an exhibition of new work at Marianne Boesky Gallery spanning painting, sculpture, and film.
Overall in her practice, Hamilton draws on her upbringing in the American South to weave land-centric folklore, regional mythology, and family history into sculpture, paintings, photographs, and films that address the social and political concerns of the rural South.
Furthering her practice's considerations of how the American landscape contributes to our ideas of "Americana" and social relationships to space in the face of a changing climate, her new exhibition explores the relationship of land and sky — of earthly and celestial. Celestine will be on view alongside Serge Alain Nitegeka: Configurations in Black in Marianne Boesky Gallery’s adjacent Chelsea space at 507 West 24th Street.
