Jennifer Bartlett: On the Water
20 March - 26 April 2025
Marianne Boesky Gallery
507 West 24th Street
Spanning 1979 to 2013, Marianne Boesky Gallery is pleased to present a new exhibition of work by Jennifer Bartlett (1941 - 2022) in sequence with two additional dedicated Bartlett solo exhibitions at Paula Cooper and Pippy Houldsworth opening in the coming months. The Marianne Boesky exhibition, entitled On the Water, focuses on aquatic themes within Bartlett's oeuvre; at Paula Cooper will be In the Woods and at Pippy Houldsworth will be In the House.
In 1968, Bartlett started working on Minimalism-inspired square steel enameled plates, on which she went on to create her most notable works. With massive, room-filling installations collected by institutions such as MoMA, Bartlett's influence continues to permeate art-historical circles and edge toward greater mainstream recognition. The upcoming exhibition includes examples of enameled works as well as oil on canvas; sculpture; and pastel on paper. Read more in the press release linked here.
On the Water will be on view alongside California is Somewhere Else in Marianne Boesky Gallery’s adjacent space at 509 West 24th Street. The exhibition slot was originally conceived as a solo show of Dashiell Manley but expanded to a three-artist show of LA-based artists (including Manley) after a large portion of Manley's work was damaged in the Altadena fires. It will also feature the Haas Brothers and Anthony Pearson.
