CHECKLIST OF WORKS ON VIEW

Marianne Boesky is pleased to present A Personal Unit, an exhibition of new work by Claudia Wieser (b. 1973 in Freilassing, Germany) that draws on diverse training such as a blacksmith apprenticeship and set design to meld art and craft through four new bodies of work.

With materials traversing silk, copper, wool, mirror, gold leaf, and more, A Personal Unit features, in addition to a dimensions-variable wallpaper titled for a 1960 Sylvia Plath poem:

  • A large-scale, four part modular sculpture that will be reconfigured weekly. Pulled apart, the sculpture reveals hand-etched drawings in the mirror-polished steel sides where the four sections fit together.

  • "Mirrors" -- wall-mounted mixed media pieces consisting of panes of shaped glass that are at times adorned with colorful, hand-painted ceramic tiles or intermixed with shaped copper panels.

  • Two tapestries of cotton, silk, wool, lurex, and acrylic, which formally operate similarly to Wieser's paintings but represent a new material exploration

  • Gilded drawings: works on paper comprising gold leaf and colored pencil

A Personal Unit will be on view alongside a solo exhibition by Martyn Cross (press kit here) in the gallery’s adjacent space at 509 West 24 Street.
